"To give glory and honor to our Holy Triune God"

CHRC's Mission Statement

We believe that “man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.” (WLC #1) Therefore, our focus as a church is to do all things to the glory of God. We also heartily affirm the teaching of our Lord, who when asked what the greatest commandment in the Law was, said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matt. 22:37-40) Therefore, we believe there are two ways that we are called to glorify God: by worshiping Him in spirit and truth, and by living lives that demonstrate love for our fellow man, as defined by scripture.

Our Mission

To give glory and honor to our Holy Triune God – corporately, as families, and individually – by ordering our worship as God has commanded, by confessing our sins, by giving Him praise and adoration for his divine perfections, by offering Him thanks for his untold mercies, and by faithfully reading and preaching the whole counsel of God’s word, seeking to do all in a manner pleasing to him.

To glorify God and advance Christ’s kingdom in the earth, and in the Virginia Tidewater region especially, by faithfully proclaiming the gospel of Christ to the lost, by faithfully instructing His Church in the whole counsel of God’s Word, and by seeking to raise up a godly seed by focusing on God’s multi-generational covenant promises to His children.

Our Goals

We seek to order our worship after the Reformed understanding with the goal of focusing all people’s attention on the proper object of our worship: Almighty God. We will base our service on the example of Scripture, constantly seeking to glorify God and to obey Him in all things.

We seek not only to convert others to Christ, but also to disciple those who are brought to a living faith, teaching them that our faith is to be expressed in every aspect of our lives.

We seek to train all the members of the church to look to Christ as the source of all fellowship and blessing, to be diligent to develop their personal relationship with Christ by regular times of prayer and study of Scripture, and to pursue faithful application of the truths revealed therein in every aspect of their lives.

We seek to promote fellowship within the church by developing heartfelt relationships between families, within families, and between individuals, ministering to one another and showing mercy to all as we are able, as God gives us opportunity.

We seek to train men to desire godly wives and families, and to joyfully accept the responsibilities of providing for their families: spiritually, morally, and materially. We will seek to train husbands to lovingly lead their families in all respects, and especially by training them in the practice of daily family worship. We will seek to encourage older men to disciple younger men, teaching them how to balance their responsibilities as Christians, husbands, fathers, and laborers.

We seek to train women to desire godly husbands and families, and to joyfully embrace their calling as wives and mothers. We will seek to train wives to be godly helpmeets to their husbands, respecting them and nurturing their families. We will seek to encourage older women to teach younger women to be busy at home, looking after the affairs of their households, and actively ministering to their families with their God-given gifts.

We seek to minister faithfully to those who in God’s providence have been called to live in singleness, encouraging them in their fellowship within the family of Christ, and seeking to direct their energies into the active service of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We seek to train children to respect their parents and those placed in authority over them, and to enjoy the company of their family. We will seek to raise our children to an early maturity, rejecting the world’s standards for childhood and adolescent behavior; teaching them to be responsible, kind, and reverent in all aspects of life, and training them to promote the spiritual and social welfare of their family.
